Our second grade scientists ended our “Solids & Liquids” unit with an exciting classroom experiment showing if liquids can travel from one place to another. They enjoyed watching it form a rainbow, just in time for St. Patrick’s day too!
This spring, they will be observing the life cycle of Painted Lady Caterpillars. Over the course of 3 weeks, students will watch the caterpillars grow, from chrysalises, and finally emerge as butterflies. They will be busy observing and recording data for each step, and learning some challenging new vocabulary words too! The class was able to release the butterflies to continue the cycle, which is always a very exciting experience for them!
We will also enjoy planting and watching our sunflowers sprout! Students will plant their own seed, and will observe the seedlings each day for two weeks. It will be fun to see them grow! Second grade scientific writers are on the move! One of the best things about the end of second grade is applying skills we learned from various subjects all at once into one project! We will soon be working on our animal research projects.
We will be able to combine Social Studies, Science, Reading, Writing, and Fundations skills all in one!
How lucky we were to attend a live musical theater production for our field trip! The students enjoyed “Arthur & Friends Make a Musical,” which included participating in a question & answer session at the end too!
Our second graders have learned to become very important “earth helpers.” They understand the importance of recycling, reusing, and reducing!
They continue to learn the importance of showing respect, kindness, and self-love, through SEL lessons that added a little touch of Spring too!
